Description: A survey of the message and structure of each prophetic book in the Old Testament. A study of the nature of prophecy in Israel and the Ancient Near East; the origins of the prophetic books and their canonical order; and the historical backgrounds of the life and ministry of the prophets. Description: A consideration of exegetical method using a study of the Greek text of the book of Colossians. Background and setting of the book, with consideration of the identity of the so-called Colossian heresy. Analysis of the structure, syntax, message, and theology of Colossians. Development of a strategy for and practice in reading from the Greek text and consideration of the uses of textual criticism. Cross-listed with BI 611. Prerequisite: BL 501-502 or reading knowledge of Greek.

Description: A historical and theological overview of the changes in the history of Western Christianity in the sixteenth century. The late Medieval church; the Lutheran, Zwinglian, and Calvinist reformations; the rise of Anglicanism; Anabaptist and radical movements; and the Counter-Reformation. Special attention will be given to how the Reformation transformed the religious and cultural landscape of Western Europe.
