GN 700—Integrative Senior Seminar

Description: A synthesis of the student's seminary studies with the goal of helping the student integrate the whole seminary experience into a more focused preparation for active vocational ministry. Opportunity will be given to study candidacy and interview methods. Required of all M.A.R. and M.Div. students. Recommended during the last semester of a student's program.

BI 740—Wisdom in the Old Testament

Description: A study of the Wisdom books of the Old Testament—Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs. Consideration of the nature of wisdom, parallels in surrounding cultures, and application for living today.

Description: A continuation of the introduction to the Koine Greek language with an emphasis on deepening knowledge of Greek vocabulary, syntax, and the verbal system. This course offers graduate credit for students in programs other than the M.Div. degree.

Description: A general historical survey of the Christian movement from the Protestant Reformation to the present. Attention is given to movements, significant ideas, individuals, crises, institutions, and turning points in the development of Christianity during the Reformation and modern periods.

CH 631—Classics of Christian Devotion

Description: An introduction to the heritage of Christian mystical and devotional literature. Study of great classic works, such as Augustine's Confessions, Thomas a Kempis' Imitation of Christ, or Brother Lawrence's The Practice of the Presence of God, in their historical contexts, with analysis of their spiritual content and influence.

Description: A study of the basic history of revivalism in America from the Great Awakenings to the twentieth century, considering the relationship between revivalism and American history and culture. An analysis of why revivalism still continues to exert significant influence on American religious expression.

Description: An introduction to the principles and practice of Christian ethics. An examination of the biblical and philosophical questions surrounding the establishment of ethics as well as the role of biblical authority and the historical relations between church and culture. The application of Christian ethics in the post-modern world, especially in the areas of personal decision-making, ministerial ethics, and leadership within the church.

Description: A survey of Christian apologetics: the means by which one can provide convincing presentations of the Christian faith. Description: An advanced examination of counseling from the perspective of Heart Motives, with attention to the clinical and practical use of the theology and theory which underlies Heart Motives counseling.

EM 510—The World Christian Movement: A Gateway to Mission

Description: A survey of the global cause of Christ in Christian missions. The biblical, theological and historical foundations for missions. Crucial issues of cross-cultural ministry, recent developments in methods, application in the local church, and future trends will be studied. This course will use the format and materials from Perspectives on the World Christian Movement of the US Center for World Mission.

PR 500—Biblical Preaching

Description: The principles of biblical preaching and sermon construction. A course designed to introduce the student to the purpose, types, and techniques of preparing and communicating a biblical sermon to contemporary people and society. The student will deliver at least one sermon for evaluation in delivery style, development, and skills.

Description: Each Master of Divinity student preparing for full-time ministry must be involved in the ministry of a local church (or, with approval from the Field Education director, a Para church ministry) under the guidance of a mentor. This involves ongoing ministry in an area chosen by the student in collaboration with the mentor as well as exposure to a variety of areas of the ministry of the local congregation. The expected student commitment is 3-5 hours each week. An internship in a local church may fulfill this requirement.
