THE FIVE CLASSES

According to the agreement between Judson and Urbana the following five courses will be taught on a rotating basis in Champaign-Urbana.

BST 101 Introduction to Biblical Studies: Old Testament—3 semester hours

Provides a basic understanding of the Old Testament by study of the historical background, content, teaching and literary structure of the Old Testament books. This course has been articulated for transfer into the University of Illinois as Religious Studies 201 and into Parkland College.

BST 102 Introduction to Biblical Studies: New Testament—3 semester hours

Provides a basic understanding of the New Testament by examining the world of the New Testament and studying the contents, teaching and literary structure of the New Testament books. This course has been articulated for transfer into the University of Illinois as Religious Studies 202 and into Parkland College.

BST 320x History of Christianity 1—3 semester hours

This course examines the history of Christianity from the end of the New Testament to the beginnings of the Reformation. It was during this time that Christianity was the social, intellectual, political, economic and cultural engine of the Western world. The course will explore popular beliefs and how Christianity interacted with other cultural developments. Students will familiarize themselves with such events and trends as the formation of the biblical canon, the controversies surrounding the early councils, monasticism, scholasticism, and the rise the Papacy. This course has been articulated for transfer into the University of Illinois as Religious Studies 2--.

BST 322x History of Christianity 2—3 semester hours

Examines the expression of Christianity from the Reformation era to the present, focusing on important movements, figures and trends. After a brief overview of the Reformation, discussion will center on the rise of renewal movements, Christianity in America, missions, and the rise of liberal theology. This course has been articulated for transfer into the University of Illinois as Religious Studies 2--.

CRP 373x American Church History—3 semester hours

Reviews theological and denominational developments of American religious groups, Puritan influences, missionary impulse, strategies for reform, response to modern world and ecumenicity. This course has been articulated for transfer into the University of Illinois as Religious Studies 2--.
