Location

The Urbana Theological Seminary Library is located on the Third floor of the University Baptist Church: 314 E. Daniel, Champaign, IL 61820. The phone number is 217-365-9005.

Locating Materials

Materials are arranged thematically and are searchable in the catalog. All books may be checked out unless they are marked as "Reference" or are in class reserves.

Checking Out and Returning Materials

Patrons may check out resources directly from the Librarian or authorized Library volunteer when they are present. When the Library is not formally staffed patrons may still check out materials by filling out a "User Information Card" and following the directions as posted in the Library.

Materials may be checked out for three weeks. It is possible to renew materials for additional three-week periods, unless there is an existing request for the material by another individual. If the due date falls on a holiday or Sunday, materials are due the next day the Library is open. Materials do not need to be brought back to the Library to be renewed. A request for renewal may be made in person, by phone, or e-mail.

To return materials, place texts in the box labeled "returns." All materials must be returned by the end of the Semester unless special arrangements have been made.

Overdue, Lost, and Damaged Materials

Materials are due three-weeks from the date checked out, unless the item is renewed or special arrangements have been made. Late fees are 10 cents per day per item (maximum fee $5 or the cost of the item, whichever is less). All library fines must be paid by the end of the semester.

If an item is reported lost or returned with substantial damage the user is responsible for the replacement cost. All Library replacement fines must be paid by the end of the semester. If UIUC materials are lost or damaged, the patron is responsible for all UIUC Library fines.

Reference Materials

Materials in the Reference section (including Journals and Class Reserves) may only be used in the Library. Reserve materials can be photocopied. Materials unable to be checked out are labeled with a "Reference" or "REF" sticker.

Class Reserves

From time to time select materials will be placed on "reserve." Materials on reserve need to stay in the Library, they may not be checked out. "Reserve" books may be photocopied using the Library's photocopier. Copies of required and recommended textbooks for classes being taught each semester will also be placed on "Reserve" in the Library.

User Information Card/Library Cards

Patrons need to fill out the "Application for borrowing privileges" form in order to receive a library card or a library barcode will be affixed to their Urbana Theological Seminary student ID card. When the Librarian is not on duty the patron will need to record items checked out on the "User Information Card." Cards are located near the book return in the Library.

User Fees [effective the Spring Semester 2005]

Students
A student Library fee is built into the registration fee assessed to each student at Urbana Theological Seminary on a semester basis. Students are able to use the Library as well as check out materials. Students are responsible for abiding by the Library procedures as outlined on the "Using the Urbana Theological Seminary Library" handout. Urbana Theological Seminary students in a degree-seeking program are granted the privilege of access to the University of Illinois Library stacks.

Community Members / Non-Urbana Theological Seminary students
Free Access

Community Members have access to the Library. Materials may only be used in the Library, books and audio/visual materials may not be checked out.

Paid Access
Community members may pay for the privilege of checking out materials. Individuals must have a valid identification and fill out an Application for Library Borrowing Privileges.

Pastors and Staff from Partnering Churches
Pastors and Church staff members from Champaign-Urbana community churches may use the Urbana Theological Seminary Library without charge. These individuals must fill out an Application for Library Borrowing Privileges and are extended the privilege of checking out Library materials.

Photocopying

The Library has a photocopier available for patron use. Copies are 10 cents per page.

Seminary students may pay for photocopies at the time they are made or wait until the end of the semester. Should the Seminary student wish to pay at the end of the semester the student must record copies made on the form available or on the student's User Information Card, recording the date and number of copies made. A statement of charges will be distributed at the end of the semester.

Payment for copies made by community members and other non-seminary students' needs to be made on the day materials are photocopied. Please pay Librarian, if on duty, or make your payment in the Urbana Theological Seminary office. Special arrangements can be made for long-term projects.

Envelopes and photocopy charge sheets are located next to the user information cards.

UIUC Library

Urbana Theological Seminary Students, in a degree seeking program, are able to utilize the University of Illinois holdings. Urbana Theological Seminary students need to obtain a signed letter, available at the Library, and bring it to room 203 in the Main Library at the University of Illinois. The UIUC Courtesy Card will be valid for a single semester; this process may be repeated in subsequent semesters. UIUC policies and fines are applicable to Urbana Theological Seminary students using the Courtesy Card.

Persons with Disabilities

The Urbana Theological Seminary Library is currently housed at a third floor location. Access to this floor is only available via stairs. Arrangements can be made for materials to be brought to a first floor study area for individuals unable to reach the Library's current location. Please email Esther Giezendanner or call to make these arrangements at 217-365-9005.
