Graduate Certificate of Christian Studies, May 2010
I was drawn to Urbana Seminary by the great teaching of the Bible. I had been serving in my church for a few years and realized that I didn’t know enough about God’s word. Dr. Ken Cuffey came to our church and offered Old Testament and New Testament panorama classes. I learned so much from his classes that I decided to invest time and energy outside of my full time job to be better equipped in God’s word.
Urbana Seminary has impacted me by growing my love for God. I have grown spiritually, too. Learning of church history and God’s word opens my eyes to the weakness of humanity and God’s infinite grace. I am more accepting to Christians of other denominations and have more love for non-Christians. I am less judgmental and have better relationships with others.
As a full time professional, my struggle has been trying to find enough time to study. As a single mother, I constantly juggle between family, work, study, and serving in church. Nevertheless, God provided me assistance for childcare and time to study. In the past few years, God took care of my family needs when He called me to study in Seminary.
I have many favorite classes. I have especially enjoyed the Heart Motives class and biblical counseling class. They provide a better lens to see how I was designed by God, myself as a sinner, and how past experiences shape me. They also help me to understand other people better. As a result, I have better relationships with family members and people around me.
I will use my certificate to serve God in whatever position and wherever He puts me. In the past few years I have been using what I learned in Seminary in my service to the Lord. I have become a better Bible study leader and Sunday school teacher. I was asked to serve as the chair of the church board in my church one month before my graduation. I am currently working with my Christian brothers and sisters in building the church while we are searching for the next pastor.
